The teenager's eyes flickered open,, watching from the ground as people walked passed him...apparently too busy to wake a sleeping kid on the street...The child huffed as he got himself off, brushing off his clothes and adjusting the pair of headphones on his head. He had a terrible headache...and as he went to rub his head, he noticed a...timer? More specifically, a count-down imprinted on his right palm, ticking down.
168:00. 7 days. He took a step back in shock, trying to remember what he was doing...the memory was somewhere in there....
Suddenly it came to him, as if out of nowhere.
"A contest..." Neku uttered to himself. "I... have to get to the center of the Core's city..." the teenager looked around helplessly. He had never been here before, and everyone else seemed a bit to preoccupied with their own lives to help out a player such as himself. the teenager sighed, flipping his MP3 player on.
He'd find someone...hopefully.

Batman prowled the city from the rooftops,"So now comes the question...what the devil is this thing on my hand?"
He had a timer as well; Batman notice Neku, then saw the timer on his hand,"Hey, Kid, what's the deal with the timers?"

Neku took a step back and said nothing as the masked figure approache him from nowhere. He didn't lok associating with strangers, and the fact that he was a muscular man earing tights and a mask didn't exactly help the situatuation.
However, he did find it interesting that this person had a timer on his hand as well...As far as he could remember, only he was supposed to have one.
"It's...for an event." Neku said quietly. "But you shouldn't have one."

"An event?" asked Scept walking out of a disolving time tunnel. "You don't say? I swear, the Ymaggion staff needs to do a better job of getting the word out on these types of things. Either that or we need some person with way to much time to create some sort of news for us." Scept's voice trailed off into the distance as his mind lost its focus. Maybe it was the fact that he hadn't actually needed to sleep for a few months now, perhaps it was catching up with him, a good thing he supposed.
Scept took a look at the man in tight black body armor that roamed the streets like he owned them, "Oh, hullo bats. You in on this little contest as well?" He took a moment, and realized it wouldn't have been the smartest idea to say something rude to Batman, but if he couldn't live a little inside his home, where was he supposed to do it?
Taking a second to size up as well, his eyes fell upon the MP3 player in the hand of the contest player which he seemed to carry around like some sort of security blanket. One quick shot from his EMP, and he could screw up the MP3 player for quite some time. He supressed a smirk at the thought of this and spoke again, "So, this contest, what's it about? Win anything decent?"

"No..." Neku said just as his MP3 player flicked to another song.
"It isn't even a real event...a publicity stunt..." Is all the teenage said, eyeing the new stranger suspiciously...did another one have the timer? This wasn't right.
"A-anyway...where is the center of the Core? I need to get there as soon as possible."

"A stunt?" said Scept, "you don't say. Sounds more interesting than what I've been doing lately." Scept was indeed curious at the possibility that some sort of publicity stunt would be taking place at the dead center of a planet, and that it wasn't a real event either. No doubt some sort of admin would come prowling along and shut it down before they could have a bit of fun, well, perhaps he could help speed things up a little bit.
"The center of the Core eh? Doesn't Sora teach the newbies anythings? Very well very well. Generally the roads lead to it, or you could simply look for the massive administrator tower and head towards that. Normally that works. I'm intrigued by this idea, however; would you mind if I followed you and observed this 'Publicity Stunt'?"
If this player said no, Scept figured he could give him false information, wipe out the timer or MP3 player with his EMP, or he could simply continue on and follow the kid from above.

Batman was irked at scept,"Take it from me, this isn't something you should be concerned with..." he also noticed his stance,"And don't even think about an EMP wave...I know you well enough to know that's how you operate..."

Neku saw his chance when the two began bickering...he hated being around people and took this chance to turn around and run for the center of the city, looking directly ahead at the massive tower as he shoved through the crowds.

"Agh, great, now i've gotta find that brat again...thanks for nothing." Batman yelled as he grappled into the sky in search of Neku.

As the argument ended Neku was already at the center of the Core when he had recieved a PM.
"Name...annonymous?" Neku asked himself as he began scrolling through the text.
Greetings contestant. You have been chosen to play a game along with several other hand picked-contenders. Please keep a note on your PM box from here on out, because if you fail to meet a challenge that is sent to you, you will die.
~Thank you, Hacker "Death God"
At first the teenager ried to ward it off as spam and delete the message, however it would keep coming back.
"What the hell is up with this thing?" Neku asked himself, reading the e-mail over again...was there a way to kill someone within a game?

Batman received the same pm, he then looked at his watch,"I feel an urge to head back to the cave."
He veered towards the upper-class residential district and started home.

The moment Batman reached the edge of the Core, an invisible wall slammed stopped his vehicle. At that moment both Batman and Neku recieved a message.
Excellent time to discuss the rules. Rule one: I have placed invisible walls around the city...you won't be leaving until the game is over.
Rule Two: No killing other contestants for a higher chance of winning. Doing so will cause in you dying as well.
Rule Three: My higher ups will be watching you. They have the power to take your life at any time.
I'm sure your curious on how I can get away with this un-noticed. Please meet at the Core to know more. The games officially begin when everyone gathers.
~ Yours truly, Death God

"Message intercepted." Announced a cool voice only audible to Scept. The teenage quickly flicked through the PM and read its contents. "Ymaggion really needs to update their security over non staff member PMs..." muttered Scept.
Well apparently this kid was being blackmailed in a way by some hacking noob and his cronies. Scept had some vague pasts with a certain staff member that could help them with this if it was needed, but unless people really did start dieing, and if there was no evidence, the staff member would be thoroughly annoyed.
Zipping through alley-ways and streets, Scept quickly tracked down where the other kid had gone. As he neared in on him, another message popped up and Scept had time to catch Neku while reading the message as he went. "So the plot thickens," muttered Scept while grinning. Vaulting onto a ledge Scept spoke out to Neku, "They can kill you, y'know. Take it from me, I got out lucky and ended up in a coma." Scept gestured to his permanently seared clothing and hopped down from the ledge. "I can contact a staff member if you'd like. These people can't be too smart if they were stupid enough to set this whole operation up in the core. They'll notice pretty soon that some people can't get out of the city. By the way, I'm Scept."

(BD, I'm assuming Batman is in the center now since your last post was vague-ish)
"I don't need your help." Neku said to the stranger. At that moment, the third e-mail from the hacker came through.
Dear contestants,
The game has officially begun! You are currently in a seperate 'layer' of the Core...you can see the normal players, however...they can't see you...consider yourselves ghosts in this manner. Because we're in an alternate area that co-incides with the Core it's as if you never existed and, as such, no administrators here to ruin our little game. From here on out, you have no contact with the outside world other than what I've already told you...so, sit back, relax and enjoy the game.
Your first challenge is to locate one or two partners. Consider this person your life source...your strength is increased as a whole, however...if your partner dies, you have 10 minutes to live afterwards. Teamwork is essential in my little game. You have 20 minutes.
That is all....oh, yes. To the one who just intercepted the private message I had sent out, welcome to the game board.
~Yours truly, Death God.
As the PM was delivered, a timer had shown up on Scept's hand as well. In addition, the timers on the hands of the contestants changed from the 7 day countdown to 00:20.
