The name's pretty self-explanatory. List your ten favorite swords from media! Any media is acceptable, be it video games, television, movies, literature, or real-life creations. The order of the ten swords do not have to be in any kind of order: just ten favorites. You can rank'em if you want to, though. Please include the name of the sword, and the title of the media its part of. Pictures are optional, but I certainly won't mind if you post them.
The only restriction is that I don't want to see fan-made creations from RPs and the like.
So, let's start things off, shall we? Here's my list:
1. Althena's Sword (Lunar)
The sword holding a fragment of Goddess Althena's magic, granted by the Goddess herself to the Dragonmaster upon his or her completion of the Dragon Trials; the ultimate weapon wielded by Dragonmaster Alex, and Hiro, in the Lunar series of games.
2. The Master Sword (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
The Blade of Evil's Bane, hidden deep in the Sacred Grove. Link seeks out this weapon to lift the curse placed on him by the Usurper King, Zant.
3. Valermos (Kit Rae: Swords of the Ancients collection)
The Sword of Fire, bestowed with the power to command creatures of the flaming depths and those in spirit form. When Vardor, the Shadow Lord, held Valermos aloft, its blade would turn black and burst into flame and its runes would glow.
4. Excalibur (Fate/stay night)
A Noble Phantasm known as the Sword of Promised Victory, wielded by the Servant, Saber. A celestial sword, constructed by the world from the collective wishes of mankind and fueled through a conversion of Mana into photoelectric energy.
5. Derflinger (Zero no Tsukaima/The Familiar of Zero)
A magical, sentient sword wielded by the Gandalfr, one of the four Familiars of the Void. Capable of speech, and able to absorb magic. Its appearance reflects the determination of the Gandalfr's heart.
6. Frostmourne (Warcraft)
A cursed runeblade that steals the soul of its wielder. Thrust out of the Frozen Throne after the Ner'zhul arrived in Northrend, it was found by Arthas, and it signaled his descent into madness, starting him on the path that would crown him as the Lich King.
7. Caladbolg (Final Fantasy X)
The Celestial Weapon wielded by Tidus, a sword whose power strengthens proportionate with the amount of health its wielder has. Its power is locked away within the Sun Crest and Sun Sigil.
8. Laevatein (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's)
The Intelligent Device wielded by the Knight of the Sword, Signum. Armed with a Belka-style Cartridge System, it can transform into a chain of linked blades, or combine with its scabbard to form a bow, and use shells to fill itself with powerful bursts of magical energy.
9. Lionheart (Final Fantasy VIII)
The strongest and finest model of Gunblades, wielded by Squall Leonhart. Featured in the very first issue of Weapons Monthly, it requires several rare items so it can be remodeled to its highest quality.
10. Nietono no Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
The finest sword ever forged by Tenmoku Ikko, with the aid of a Crimson Lord who shared the wish of creating a weapon paralleled by none. Now lies in the hands of the notorious Flame Haze known as Shana, who was named after the sword itself.
