The ex-marine had been sitting in the Colosseum for about half an hour watching one fight after another. No one seemed to be much of a threat, or even a challenge for the brute in the arena. The guy was certainly burly, and seemed to have a handle on basic hand-to-hand combat.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I regret to inform you that there are no more challengers, and thus the bouts are done for the day!" The announcer said from the middle of the arena. "Today's champion is--!"
"Hold it!" Col. Jessup said loudly, but in a very calm tone. The booing crowd fell silent and turned to the large soldier as he stood up. The Colonel was in his dress uniform with his energy saber and handgun attached to his belt on opposite sides. "I'll fight him."
~A soldier.~ The announcer thought as he looked up at Jessup. ~This should be good.~ He thought with a smile. "Ladies and gentlemen, a new challenger!" The crowd roared with excitement, and then Ben jumped down from his front row seat into the arena. Two guards came over to Benjamin, and informed him that he'd have to remove his weapons for this bout. The Colonel complied, and gave the two men his weapons. "Fighters to the center of the arena!" The announcer called.
The two men walked up to each other in the middle of the arena, and stood face to face. Col. Jessup stood at 6'5", and this fighter was probably about one inch shorter but looked like he had a good 15lbs of muscle on Ben. But, muscle didn't really matter much when most of your body was made of steel.
"Fighters ready?" The two spread apart a bit, and then got into their stances. The fighter adopted a basic boxing stance, whereas Ben took a Muay Thai side-stance with his left side facing his opponent. "Fight!"
The man charged at Jessup and threw a straight left. The Colonel knocked the man's arm away with his left forearm and proceeded to roundhouse him in the head. The fighter stumbled to his hands and knees, and then put a hand to his head. He examined his hand in shock. He was bleeding. He knew the hit was hard; it felt like he got whacked with a steel baseball bat, but he'd never bled from the head before. The fighter rose up angered, and turned to where he remembered Col. Jessup being. However, the Colonel wasn't there. Ben had dashed over to his opponent and was currently ducked down. When the soldier jumped up he thrust his right fist into the man's chin knocking him out and sending him flying a good 12-15 feet.
"Medics!!" The announcer exclaimed after the fighter hit the ground. A few men dressed in white rushed over to the fighter and put him on a gurney to take him out of the ring. "Winner!" The announcer proclaimed as he stood beside Col. Jessup and raised his hand in victory.
~Not good enough. I have one day before I meet that shape shifter in Newdam, I have to be battle ready. I need practice.~ Jessup thought as he looked out into the crowd. "Are there any challengers?!" Col. Jessup asked loudly, and the audience gradually became silent. "Is there anyone? Anyone at all willing to fight me?"
