The girl looked at the musical object and smiled. “Yes. I found it a few years ago when I was just walking through these woods. I also heard the song I was playing just now a couple of days before I found it.”
Link looked at the instrument, too. He wondered if the girl would allow him to hold the item for a moment, just being curious. As if she read his mind, the girl held out her hand with the blue thing in it. “Here.” She said.
Surprised, but happy, Link gladly took the ocarina from the girl. Turning it around a few times, he curiously inspected every bit of it, every hole, every curve.
“If you want to, I could teach you how to play the song.” The girl offered to him. “Would you like that?”
Link looked up, and nodded. “Would I!”
“I don’t know.” The girl replied. “Would you?” She giggled a little.
Link looked a little confused at her. “Don’t tease me like that.” He said.
“Okay then,” the girl said, still a bit gigglish, “you just hold that one hole over there near your mouth – yeah, like that – and then you blow in it.”
Link blew into the ocarina. A soft, low tone came out of the instrument.
“And now put one of your fingers on that hole.” The girl instructed.
Link put a finger on the hole the girl had pointed at and blew into the ocarina again. A different tone than before came out.
After the girl had make him blow just about every single tone she could think of, she started telling him in which order he had to make the tones to get the song she was playing. Link bumbled a bit at first, not knowing what to do, but after a couple of tries, he got a decent little song out of the blue little thing. Happy with the results, he felt proud with himself.
“Very good!” The girl commented, clapping her hands. “You’re gonna be a really good musician someday!”
Link blushed a little. “It… it was no—”
“LINK!” A voice suddenly bellowed through the woods. “LI-IIIIINK!!”
Caught in surprise, Link quickly turned around. That was Torian’s voice! Had he followed him into the woods?
Link groaned. Oh, no… He thought. Not Torian… He turned to the girl. “I… I’m sorry, I’ve… I’ve got to go now.” He apologized.
“It’s okay.” She replied. “We’ll just see eachother again later.”
Link nodded, and showed a sad smile. Then, he turned around and ran back into the direction he had come from. The same direction Torian’s voice came from. Link ran towards him, afraid of what punishment the man might have thought up for him, after he had run off like that. He didn’t look well where he was going, and thus, he ran straight into the man.
“AUCH!” Torian cried out, as Link’s head hit his gut, and he toppled over and fell onto the ground.
“I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry!” Link cried out, putting his hands over his head, afraid Torian might beat him.
“What are ye sorry for?” The man sneered. “Ye only snuck outta me lessons and hit me in me gut real hard.” He rubbed his belly as he gave the young child a glare.
“I’m sorry.” Link muttered softly.
“Eh, stop yer sorryin’.” Torian said. “Come on, let’s get ye back home.” Torian started making his way back to the castle, Link following shortly after him. The child didn’t even notice he was still holding the girl’s blue ocarina. However, someone else did notice…
“Oh, by the goddesses, that kid stole my ocarina!” A girl clad in green cried out, frustrated.
