NPC or PC: Player Character
Real- Life Character Name: Loal Kateran
Ymaggion Character Name: Rua Dragonheart
Alias: R.D., Rising Dragon. (Note: Usage of these names from most people will most likely result in bodily harm.)
Age: 19
Gender: Male.
Nationality: United States of America
Rank: Beta
Strengths and Weaknesses: Rua maintains a balance in his abilities, with focus on physical strength and agility, preferring to strike hard and fast while being able to dodge and maneuver well. As a result, his defense is only mediocre, and his prowess in magical abilities, while average, is not often used. Rua is often referred to as a “lone wolf” type of character, and he does not cooperate well with others—in fact, just about the only people capable of reining him in is his girlfriend, Alasea Dagenais, and his younger cousin, Lily Averson. Rua is proficient with just about any type of sword-like weapon, and is able to quickly adapt the weapon to his particular fighting style. However, he finds himself ill at ease with other types of weapons, and dislikes using most long-range weapons.
Clothing or Armor: Rua’s main attire is a sturdy traveling outfit, designed to be flexible during battle, yet strong enough to take light blows and to weather the meteorological elements of nature. It consists of a scarf, long-sleeved shirt, sleeveless coat, thick pants, traveling boots, leather gauntlets, and some belts.
The long-sleeved shirt is black and made of a light, soft, yet sturdy fabric, and the sleeves cover the length of his arms to the wrists. The front of the shirt is emblazoned with his personal emblem from the beta test, a roaring dragon with wings outstretched and tail curled, as if taking flight.
His coat is cobalt in color, and do not have any sleeves. The coat length ends around his knees and contains both buttons and loopholes as well as a zipper, and its collar has a white fur lining, like those seen on leather biker jackets. The coat has a number of interior pockets, and two large exterior ones around the waistline. Rua normally keeps the coat open, but held down with a thick leather belt around the waist.
Rua’s pants are also black in color, and extend all the way down to his ankles. They are made of a light and durable material, allowing him both protection and maneuverability when on the move. He wears a pair of belts, crisscrossing over his hips, that hold the sheathes to his personal Phase Blade weapons.
Rua wears a pair of durable leather gauntlets on his hands, which extend over his shirt and down his arm nearly to the elbow. The fingers to these gloves are missing. Rua also wears a pair of light, soft-leather boots, black in color, which extend up his leg over his pants almost to his knees. Around his neck, Rua wears a black leather scarf, wrapped around a couple of times with the tails hanging over his shoulders behind him. The scarf was not meant for warmth, but to prevent neck injuries, such as someone coming up behind him with a knife to slit his throat.
At times, Rua wears a thick brown cloak, which opens in front and drapes around him. Its bottom hem is ragged from use, but the article of clothing is still durable and travel-worthy.
Physical Appearance: Rua is a tall, male human. He has a body build that is toned and athletic, showing much strength without adding a lot of bulk to his body. He has a white complexion, but his skin has been darkened a bit by exposure to the sun. His hair is longer than most men, and dark brown in color. His hair is parted down the middle, allowing his bangs to fall down to the side. His hair is unruly, and often has a slightly spiked appearance at times. Rua’s eyes are a bright green in color, testament to his change during the Epsilon Project when his body absorbed Bahamut’s body and soul during the battle with Diablo. His hair oftentimes gets in the way of his eyes, but this hardly bothers him or hinders his eyesight. On the side of Rua’s right shoulder is a black tattoo of his personal sigil, a dragon with wings outstretched and tail curled, as if taking flight—a “rising dragon.” On the side of his left shoulder is a black tattoo of the symbolic representation of Lumiya, a circle surrounded by eight diamond shaped “wings” in a spread-out octagonal formation. Underneath both tattoos on the upper arms are black tattoos of black swords, blade pointed downwards.
It should be noted that Rua’s physical appearance is much similar to his appearance as the Rising Dragon in the Epsilon Project—while Loal’s character data had Lumiya installed and thus was sealed away from the game, a fragment of copied data was used as the template to create his new character, Rua Dragonheart.
Personality: Rua’s single-most defining trait is determination… he can pursue a goal relentlessly until he accomplishes it. He is friendly towards others, but distant, causing people to hesitate in attempting to befriend him. Rua is loyal and protective of his friends and those he cares about, especially for his girlfriend, Alasea. Rua can be easily angered—foolish people especially anger him. In battle, Rua is absolutely ruthless, and not above using dirty tricks. Despite this, he has his own sense of honor… it just has no place on the battlefield.
Due to certain events in the Epsilon Project, in the right situation (such as the presence of a past threat from the Epsilon Project) Rua will fly into an unbelievable rage, and fight with a single-minded tenacity and will stand down for no one. At these moments, only Alasea has any hope of success at calming him. Another surefire way of angering him is by calling him the Rising Dragon, or R.D.. While this name was what he was known by in the Beta Test, it infuriates him when it’s used by most other people. When he had amnesia in-game, many others called him the Rising Dragon, which he did not know the significance of. This angered him greatly, and for some reason, still does. If his girlfriend Alasea uses this name for him, it does not bother him. However, she is the only person who can call him this without angering him.
Rua has understandable trust issues with all of the Staff of Ymaggion, with the sole exception of Gahm. Certain events in the Epsilon Project caused the Staff to lose track of R.D., as he traveled with a number of people not recorded in the game’s database. These events were R.D.’s various journeys across the Multiverse alongside his friends: Matt Willard, Helena, Hugo the Mettaur, and Oswald. When the Beta Test ended and the testers recovered, when interrogated by the Staff, he refused to speak of these events. Since then, the Staff does not trust him.
Weapons/Equipment:
Phase Blade - Rua’s main armament is a pair of Phase Blades, both with black hilts and straight-edged, azure colored blades, like longswords. The two Phase Blades are capable of combining into the Phase Lance and Phase Scythe.
Dragon King Armor - Rua is also capable of summoning the Dragon King Armor, a powerful set of artifact armor he acquired in the Beta Test when he fought Diablo and unlocked the Third Cipher of Lumiya. As his original character data was used as a template, he retains the armor and is its sole wielder. This armor also allows him the use of powerful weaponry and attacks—however, he does not use the cannon weaponry very often.
Thunder King - Rua owns a special motorcycle created by the Isle specifically for him. The motorcycle can become a small cube for storage, and this cycle is Rua and Alasea's main method of transportation.
Miscellaneous Items:
Fake Chaos Emerald – Rua carries a synthetic copy of a Chaos Emerald, a jewel that harbors and channels an innately chaotic energy. This energy can be used to warp time and space to a degree, through the use of Chaos Control. The fake that Rua carries has the same wavelength and properties as a real Chaos Emerald, but is weaker than a real one.
Can of Whoop-Ass – A metal can labeled in orange letters “Whoop-Ass.” Despite the comical appearance of these items, they are potent explosives. A second after opening the can, it unleashes a massive torrent of orange energy like a large tsunami. The energy rushes out, and after covering an expansive area, ignites in a massive explosion. After a failed mission in the arctic wastes near the Ice Temple, Rua keeps it a priority to keep at least six of these unique grenades on him.
Elemental Affinity While Rua is skilled at using any kind of element during the few times he uses magic, he is most adept at using the elements of Fire, Lightning, and Light.
Special Abilities: Rua has unnaturally increased strength and speed, but not at superhuman levels. He is capable of deciphering strange languages, such as Al Bhed, with practiced ease. Rua is also trained in wilderness survival skills, allowing him to effectively hunt and track in the rampant wilderness. Rua is also capable of attuning himself to the innate power of the Chaos Emeralds, allowing him to wield Chaos Control, which taps into the chaotic energies of a Chaos Emerald to manipulate time and space to a minor degree—this ability is limited due to Rua’s usage of a fake Chaos Emerald, which is not as strong as a real Chaos Emerald.
Transformations:
Ascension – Rua unleashes dormant power left within him from Lumiya’s residual power, by letting go of his emotions and entering a serene state of mind. His abilities are heightened dramatically, and his mind becomes lucid and clear, causing him to let go of fear, anger, and hatred. His body emanates a golden aura, and all of his physical features take on a golden hue. Abilities granted by this ascension is heightened strength and moving speed, heightened agility, and highly-increased attack speed. The Dragon King Armor can be used while in this state, and it too takes on a golden hue when worn during the Ascended state.
Super Transformation – Rua is capable of achieving a Super Transformation when he is near all seven Chaos Emeralds (or Emerald sets of similar origin, such as the Sol Emeralds or Negative Emeralds.) When in the Super Transformation, Rua is surrounded in a chaotic, gold and silver aura similar to angry fire, his hair is blown back and similar to spikes, and the hair also takes on a grayish-silver color. His eyes are also colored red, and glow slightly. Rua gains an incredible boost in his abilities, including heightened strength and a massive increase in speed, as well as the ability to achieve flight through energy manipulation. Rua does not use the Dragon King Armor in this transformation. However, Rua using this transformation is extremely rare, as it requires all seven Chaos Emeralds (or similar Emeralds of the same amount) to initiate, and all such Emerald sets are in the possession of the Sega Administrator, Shade.

Battle Style: Rua is a master swordsman. He fights primarily with his two Phase Blades, attacking with quick and powerful strikes of the weapons. He almost always aims for vitals, such as the eyes, or joints and muscles on the body, such as the back thighs or elbows. He’ll often use kicks in battle, if his opponent is not armed with a bladed weapon of their own. When fighting in unarmed combat, he fights in a Korean martial arts style, utilizing quick and fast blows with his fists and feet, while bouncing on the balls of his feet, always in motion. It is rare that Rua utilizes the magic given to him by the residual power from Lumiya left in his character data, but when he uses it, it tends to be quite potent.
Companions: Rua has a constant companion in Alasea Dagenais. She is a fellow beta tester, one of the Daughters of Dawn in the Epsilon Project and a Daughter of Light in Ymaggion. More importantly, she is his girlfriend, and the two of them are madly in love with each other. Rua is also good friends with Locke Silverwind, a younger player who he has taken under his wing. As a result, he is acquainted with his older sister, Marianna.
Another friend of Rua’s is the fallen beta tester and the current Square-Enix Administrator, Kite McKnights. However, their friendship is strained due to Rua’s holding back of his knowledge of the Omega Core, Omega Essence, and the Multiverse in general.
Rua has a penultimate rival in Kalmar Uverth. During the beta test, they were enemies for a while, when the demon Re-Tuul deceived the Demon Hunter into thinking R.D. was a monster, and the two battled many times before the truth was revealed. They have entered an unsteady friendship, but will often come to the aid of the other and are practically unstoppable as a team in battle, armed with the powerful attack, Darkness God Finger.
History: Rua Dragonheart was one of Ymaggion’s Beta Testers, of the infamous Epsilon Project. In the beta, he was known as Loal Kateran and had the alias of the Rising Dragon, and was, for a time, a bounty hunter and mercenary. Despite his age, he was skilled and talented, and a very dangerous fighter. He was good at what he did, and soon garnered the title of “Rising Dragon.” However, he saw his sister murdered by a pack of powerful cloned demons known as the Khaglessi. This set him on a path of revenge, where he hunted down any kind of demon he came across while he hunted for the nine Khaglessi. During these travels, he encountered an Artisan of the Isle, and he learned of the Isle and its purpose. He helped the Artisan with his goal, and was rewarded with the special weapons of the Isle’s elite guard: a pair of Phase Blades. Soon, he caught up with the Khaglessi on a jungle- and ruin-filled island called Persior, which was filled with smugglers. He entered the ruined city on Persior and battled the nine Khaglessi, and when they underestimated, his rage destroyed all but one of them. The survivor, Re-Tuul, fled as Loal was fended off with a native monster of the city, a Ruinsman Guardian Beast.
Over time, as Loal tracked the remaining Khaglessi across the globe as the Seven Beasts of the Dark Apocalypse were released, he came to a city near the mainland, with Persior on it. This city, however, was a doomed one, as it was soon attacked by a minion of DragonFire’s, known as Dark Dragon. This berserk creature killed everything in its path, and in the resulting confusion and chaos, he was knocked out and acquired amnesia. When he awoke, he witnessed a battle between Matt Willard, MegaMan Juno, and the Heartless. When discovered and interrogated, only a single name came to him—Rising Dragon—and he took on the name R.D., and decided to travel with Matt. They met with Alasea Dagenais, and learning of the secret weapon that lay deep within him—Lumiya, the Weapon of Souls. This weapon would prove to be both a blessing and a curse for R.D—while the weapon was strong, and proved invaluable to saving the lives of himself and his friends, it put him under the eye of Ziatoch, who sought the Seven Perfect Weapons in His bid for Earth. R.D. traveled the world with Alasea, Matt, Hugo, and Helena, making friends in the Daughters of Dawn and the King of Dragons, and enemies in Xastra and Kalmar Uverth, before he and Alasea joined Matt on the interdimensional adventure to seek the Eternal Sanctuary. Later they returned to Earth, as it was time for Alasea to achieve her ultimate destiny as a Daughter of Dawn. They escorted her to the Pillar of Dawn in Japan, and when they left, they were attacked by the original ruler of Hell, and one of Ziatoch’s most powerful generals: the Lord of Terror, Diablo. R.D. was nearly killed, but his life was spared as the King of Dragons, who gave him his own power in the form of the Dragon King Armor.
R.D. would continue his adventure, arriving at the Eternal Sanctuary and battling the being known as Core Genesis. However, when Helena was killed, he was forced to fight the ultimate avatar of destruction: Dragon Drive FINAL. After a terrible battle with Matt, R.D. was victorious and prevented the complete destruction of Reality, and returned to Earth, where after shedding his tears, constructed a memorial for the slain girl. Another adventure across the Multiverse and several terrible battles against the minions of Xastra and Ziatoch, R.D. helped lead the heroes to ultimate victory, and the beta testers were freed from the curse of the Epsilon Project.
Upon awakening, he was interrogated by the staff, and while he did his best to recount what had happened, he refused to tell them about his adventures with Matt Willard. The Staff knew he was hiding something, and they continue to have a difficult time trusting him, despite his good intentions. After the Beta Test, Loal met up with Alasea, and the two, who had fallen in love over the game, entered a serious and strong relationship. When Ymaggion was released to the public, Loal and Alasea entered the gameworld once more, despite their better judgment. While most beta testers were given their old character data, with stats reset, Loal’s character data was sealed away due to the installation of Lumiya in it. Using a copied fragment of the character data, Rua Dragonheart was created, and serves as Loal’s avatar on Ymaggion. Rua would find himself as one of the de facto leaders of the players during many a crisis, including the Orb Thefts, the Glitch Incidents, and the revival of the failed Dark Balances. As of now, he is on the constant lookout for the failed Balance 003 Gamma, known as Ziatoch, who proved to be a far greater threat than Kuro or Xastra.
RP Example: Rua was screaming with rage in his skyward battle. He had been fighting intensely with a massive dragon that had been mutated by the virus. The creature had burned him, bitten him, scratched him, and did god knows how many things to dislodge him from its scaly back.
He wasn't quite sure how they got airborne. All he knew that he was on the dragon's back, fighting off two of the monster's three heads, and the clouds were streaking by as the beast glided on four wings. Wings that Rua was beginning to eye a great deal.
As the battle made its way over Pharos, the swordsman spun his Phase Blades in his hands and readied the Shin Kougenjin energy blades for a brutal attack. With two vicious slashes and wave slash launches, Rua and the viral dragon found themselves plummeting in freefall, as the beast no longer had wings. It made a terrified roar as they fell, and Rua had no choice but to get off. As the beast swooped by Pharos, Rua leapt off of its back and towards the wall of the lighthouse, stabbing a Phase Blade into it and using to anchor himself to the wall. The blade cut through easily, and eventually he stopped sliding down. His arm sore, Rua watched the fate of the dragon from many, many stories up.
With another terrible cry, the beast attempted to regenerate its lost wings. However, it was too late for the beast. It crashed headfirst into the IslandTurtle's back at high-speeds, creating a devastating explosion that left the IslandTurtle in ruins.
"Ugh," Rua groaned, "What the hell was that thing? I need to get over there before the Virus takes a new host..."
