Shifter drew two points together and phased through them to catch up with Laura and Joe, letting reddish-black smoke and dark matter to burst out around the two points as he Space-Shifted. He stepped in line with the others as he walked out of the Shift, appearing nonchalant.
"Whatever the prizes are, we should exchange them for money," he said conversationally.

"Show off," Laura muttered indistinctly at Shifter's teleporting before she said in a more audible tone, "I suppose so. Wouldn't it depend on what it is, though? I mean, who knows, maybe something really interesting could show up. Besides, all the vendors would never pay you as much as something might really be worth."

"Tournaments like these always let you exchange the prize for its cash value," Shifter said, shaking his head. "And we'll need the extra cash when we're in Rogueport. We don't have a whole lot of extra funds, and we might have to bribe one or two people for information on Joe's lady. And if we tried to tempt them with the prize itself, we'd probably just get it stolen."

"If a good prize could help that much, then let's hope we win." Joe said, the mere mention of his missing wife sending chills down his spine. His entire body stiffened with anger, he rubbed a hand against his forehead, wishing he could remember more.

Laura smiled slyly as she cracked her knuckles, "If we're good enough, we won't need to hope, right? I guess what I would be worried about though would be one of those people or groups of people who get good at what they do, then they go and fight the people who wouldn't stand a chance just because they enjoy beating someone." Bitterness marked her words, but her face still remained cheerful, ready to start the challenges that awaited them.

"Nah, we don't have to worry about that," Shifter said, shrugging before placing his hands behind his head in a relaxed manner. "The groups who do that tend to get their rears kicked when they do; there's people out there who hunt down such groups and teach them lessons."
He looked over at the floating girl. "I dunno about you, but I really don't feel like getting humiliated that badly."

Joe shook his head, "humiliation is to be expected. And is a simple part of the path to victory." He again started walking down the the hallway they were standing in. "Don't be afraid of loss, Shifter...especially in this reality."
