NPC or PC: PC
Real- Life Character Name: Justin Bailey
Ymaggion Character Name: Shifter
Alias: None
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Nationality: England
Rank: Delta
Strengths/Weaknesses: Shifter’s strengths lie in his agility, speed, and rapid teleportation abilities. While not very strong, he is able to avoid many attacks, and surprise his opponents by attacking in unsuspected angles. Unfortunately, he has a difficult time overcoming stronger, hardier opponents. While Shifter is adept with close-range weaponry like swords, knives, and blunt weapons, his skill with long-range weaponry is sub-par, and he’s forced to rely on his teleportation skills to attack far-off opponents.
Clothing/Armor: Shifter’s chosen outfit is simple and fairly colorful in appearance, consisting of a shirt, pants, coat, gloves, and boots. His shirt is a deep purple color, with short sleeves and a long bottom hem going down past his hips, and his pants are a faded white color. The shirt is held down at the waist by a thin black belt, A red cloth with many white, orange, green, and black designs is held down under the belt, and draped over Shifter’s left hip and tied down on the right. His coat is a gray-green color, with a wide, red fur collar, a white fur lower hem, and the sleeves rolled up past his elbows. Shifter’s gauntlets are made of a dark brown leather, are devoid of fingers, and have a number of white cloth strips wrapped over them. The gauntlets extend to mid-forearm, ending with a band of white fur. His boots are made of a soft reddish-brown leather, and travel up to the top of his calf. Like his gauntlets, they too are wrapped with a number of white cloth strips.
Physical Appearance: Shifter retains a rather unusual appearance. Standing at 4’11”, he has a white complexion lightly tanned from the sun, and a fairly athletic build. Shifter’s hair is short and flairs out backwards, mostly white with a reddish brown streak running back over the top of his head, the bangs staying well out of his eyes, as he prefers keeping his vision clear so that he can use his Space-Shifting abilities easier to accomplish. His eyes are a light brown color, and are rarely obscured by sunglasses or other eyeglass pieces.
Personality: Shifter is generally a laid-back, easy-going type of person, like many young teenagers. He tends to accept most things without comment or conflict, preferring not to cause arguments among himself and his friends or allies. He often looks for ways to amuse himself while in towns, and is a bit of a flirt. While in battle, he maintains an upbeat attitude, though a steel can be heard in his voice. He does not give up battles and arguments very easily: as Shifter puts it, defeat is not an option for him. When his own personal beliefs and perspectives are challenged, Shifter tends to be rather indecisive for a period of time before making his decision and sticking adamantly to it.
Equipment:
Katana – Shifter’s mainstay weapon is a simple Japanese-style katana, with a three and a half foot-long blade and a foot-long hilt. The crossguard is gold, and made to resemble a serpent wrapping itself around itself and the sword, biting its own tail. The hilt is wrapped in embroidered red cloth. The weapon itself is usually held in a black wooden scabbard strapped to Shifter’s back.
Miscellaneous Items: None.
Elemental Affinity: Space
Special Abilities: Shifter’s name is derived from the special ability he has recently mastered, called Space-Shifting. Within his mind, Shifter takes two points in space and brings them together, and phases through it, to transport himself from one place in the world to another. Physically, this appears as him disappearing instantly, leaving behind a short-lived cloud of red smoke and fragments of dark matter, and reappearing in the same way, both instances creating a sound similar to air filling in a sudden gap when it happens. Space-Shifting has its limits, however. The ability is mentally exhausting if over-used, and is more strenuous to use the greater the distance traveled. As such, it is not safe to use on a distance greater than thirty-five feet. Crossing a distance of sixty feet or greater would cause Shifter to pass out from exhaustion after a single Shift. While it is possible to perform a Space-Shift to an area that Shifter cannot actually see, it is generally not done, for fear of accidentally Shifting directly into something solid, which would prove fatal. Space-Shifting, however, can be used to scale cliff sides, and cross gaps without any problems. Space-Shifting does a low, but not insignificant, drain in mana when performed. At this point, Shifter cannot shift another person, or any kind of object too big to be carried on his person, with him when he performs a Space-Shift.
Transformations: None.
Techniques:
1. Weapon Summoning
Super Techniques:
1. Brilliant Blade
Battle Style: Shifter is quick and agile, and makes use of it by striking fast before the opponent can. Using his shifting abilities, he is capable of initiating surprise attacks from unsuspected angles, shifting in, striking, and shifting out. Using this as his main tactic, Shifter rarely presses his opponent by attacking one angle continually, as his low strength levels would allow the enemy to overcome him within a short period of time. His shifting abilities is his only way of attacking opponents who primarily use long-range weaponry or magic, using it to cross distances before his opponents can lock onto him. Magic rarely plays a role in his fighting style, usually only to supplement his attack power, or to regain his weapon after disarmed.
Companions: Shifter’s companion as of late consists of joining Skygirl318 when he can log on, assuming he can find the her wherever she happen to be.
History: Justin Bailey grew up in London, England, having been born into a rather wealthy family. He grew up well adjusted, albeit a little spoiled. He maintains a good relationship for his parents, but their wealth stems from their careers, which all too often places them out of the household for long periods of time, leaving him with a temporary guardian. Looking for things to do when school relented on work and when his friends were otherwise busy, Justin used the wealth of his family to find him things to occupy his time. As such, he soon learned of the new game, Ymaggion. He looked up what history he could of the game and what it was like. After learning what he could, he saw to it that he get the necessary system requirements and finally purchase the game headset. He soon signed up for the account and created his character for the game, giving him an unusual appearance and arming him with an Oriental weapon just for the sake of being different. And with his character created, Justin began shifting between Ymaggion’s virtual world, and real life, which inspired the character’s nickname of “Shifter.”
Like most teenagers, Justin was occasionally afflicted with bouts of laziness. During one such period, while playing, Shifter learned of a teleportation ability called Space-Shifting and found the ability to be perfect for being lazy, and as such began to seek how to learn it. In time, he learned that the ability required a lot more work than he had previously believed, but by then, he had gotten too far and refused to quit. He sought out more advanced players who knew the ability and asked for their tutelage, which helped increase his skill with Space-Shifting. When unable to find willing teachers, Shifter made his way to Minervum’s University and the Grand Library, seeking out more information on the Space-Shifting ability, pouring over its tutorials and books about it.
It was here that he met one of his most steadfast friends, Laura, otherwise known as Skygirl318, since she spends much of her time there. He sympathized with her predicament and felt compelled to spend time with her when he could. As a character, he was adept at protecting her when they ventured out of Minervum, and with his Space-Shifting abilities, it was easy enough or him to keep up with her flight abilities. While others may tend to come and go for their group, Shifter and Skygirl pretty much stick together through thick and thin.
RP Example: “Oh, come on, Sky,” Shifter said, looking over at the barefoot girl, while drawing his katana from its scabbard. He turned back towards the sloping hill, and to the rowdy, inexperienced players charging across the area towards them. “These guys? This’ll be a piece of cake.”
Without waiting for a response or any other kind of action from his companion, Skygirl318, Shifter started off in a dash towards the hill and leaped, going far as the hill sloped downwards beneath him, before gravity asserted its law and he began his descent. Only moments before he’d hit the ground… he disappeared, leaving a vaporous red cloud in his wake. Surprised, some of the members of the enemy party slowed down to a stop, and began looking around after they saw Shifter disappear.
“Where the hell did he go?” they player in the lead of the group asked, aiming a pistol around as he searched for Shifter. There was a burst of sound behind him almost immediately after the words left his mouth, as red vapor and dark matter exploded around Shifter as he reappeared in a run, katana flashing downwards. The player screamed and toppled as the blade cleaved through his exposed back, even as Shifter backed up and disappeared again in another red cloud to avoid the spray of bullets the defeated player’s comrade sprayed. Only a second later, Shifter appeared at the gunner’s side and cut him down, disappearing again shortly after.
“What the hell’s going on!?” one player exclaimed as Shifter appeared in midair, cutting down a third person. Someone screamed as they fled from the battlefield. As he ran, Shifter suddenly appeared beside him in a burst of red, his sword shredding through the player’s side as he ran past, only for him to disappear again. This was just nuts. “I’m gettin’ the hell outta here!”
One last player, armed with an energy rifle, took far-off shots at Shifter, swearing each time the jacket-clad player disappeared in another puff of red vapor and dark matter, reappearing elsewhere. Suddenly, he heard a click as his weapon refused to fire, having spent its energy cartridge. Fumbling, he reached for another cartridge in his inventory. His actions ceased when there was a sound, and Shifter landed easily on the ground in front of him, sword at his side. The player began backing away slowly. “Ohhhh shit.”
“Doesn’t quite describe what you put yourself into,” Shifter quipped, disappearing again and rapidly crossing the distance, Shifting right in front of the player as he attacked.
