There are eight. Each one holding a gained ability, a curse, and also a spirit. Evil will more than likely want to collect the books to gain power, and dominate all who stand in their way. While the good will probably band together, in order to find a way to remove the curses forever. So, what will you choose? Will you help free the spirits and remove the curses? Use the power to destroy your enemies? Something else entirely? Or perhaps, you are not a book wielder?
Just to clear a few things up:
1. You may not create a new book, well, not yet anyhow.
2. Each book is written in their own language, which is revealed to the user over time, in other words, each page will only be readable as time goes on.
3. These pages reveal new abilities, help track down other books, and also give general tidbits on things.
4. The spirit inside talks to the wielder through telepathy.
5. You don't have to submit your first, or any of your characters as a book wielder.
6. So in a way, they're kinda similar to the Mamodo Books of the Zatch Bell series.
7. I know someone might break this sooner or later, so... FOLLOW THE CURSE OF YOUR BOOK!
8. Books cannot be exchanged between owners to switch powers and curses.
Now as for the books...
Book of Fire
Owner: None yet
Power: The wielder gains the ability to create and manipulate fire, even when submerged in water, but that doesn't mean that water isn't still a bit of a weakness.
Curse: The user's' hands and feet become permanently on fire, yet not burning the skin or clothing. These flames stay active no matter what, and will burn anything that isn't a personal possession of the book holder.
Book of Sight
Owner: Samuel Marter
Power: The wielder's' 'third eye' is opened, allowing them to sense the life forces of other beings nearby.
Curse: The owner goes completely and utterly blind.
Book of Shadows
Owner: Damian Tyrannus
Power: Physical attacks and weaponry do not affect the holder, they simply pass through the person as if they weren't even there.
Curse: The person's' whole body becomes as black as night.
Book of Blood
Owner: Ken Hert
Power: All the abilities of a daywalker(immune to garlic and can move in the sunlight).
Curse: The wielder becomes a vampire with a powerful thirst. But, if they bite a being, the one bit won't become vampiric.
Book of Fusion
Owner: None yet.
Power: Has the power to fuse two beings into one, creating a more powerful one for a period of time, but cannot use themselves in a fusion.
Curse: The memory of the owner is forgotten from all people who knew them. Any relations, events, whatever, are forgotten.
Book of Poison
Owner: None yet.
Power: Can create a vast variety of poison from their own body, gas, solid, or liquid.
Curse: The person's' flesh nearly takes on the appearance of a zombie, the flesh appearing to be rotting, but never falling off.
Book of Mind
Owner: None yet.
Power: The holder gains vast psychic and mental abilities.
Curse: The head of the person increases a bit, while the muscle tissue goes down a bit.
Book of Restraint
Owner: None yet.
Power: Can borrow a slightly weaker version of any power a book user may have, and in borrowing, attach one of their chains to the borrowee. The target MUST be in view to set a lock, but does not have to be in view after the lock is in place.
Curse: Chains are always attached to the person, connected to their wrists and ankles, and welded to subdimensional locks. Chains are invisible to non-book users. Speed is cut due to this. They cannot be cut.

Name: Samuel Marter
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Book: Sight
How did he obtain the book?: He was playing around in some ancient ruins by himself, when he found a trap door which led down to a room. In the room, he saw the book, and after wiping the dust off of it and trying to read it, the curse came upon him. This curse made him blind, and after a while of trying to get out, he ended up finding a man who led him out of the ruins. Samuel was also surprised that he was able to 'sense' where the man was.
Special Abilities: Due to being blind, all of his other senses have been strengthened. Can also still see and read his book even though he's blind. Third eye has been awakened(that's a given).
Equipment: None as of yet.
