Sentra looked at the cat for a moment, her eyes narrowing and dialating as she searched his features. His black teeth bared again and she shifted uncomfortably. She was all too aware of the power held in his shoulders, and how sharp his fangs actually were. With a slight flutter of her wings she suppressed a shiver.
A single, soft sigh escaped her beak, and she closed her eyes and shook her head, "I'm fine if you are." Even if she had been tired, her pride wouldn't have let her say she needed to sleep. Closing her eyes once more, she focused all her energy into her form, stretching and pulling it back into a human girl, wings spread to their full 13 feet span as she regained her stance as an upright person. As she finished her morph, she fluttered her feathers and folded her wings to her back, hugging them tight to her body.

Mr. Black saw the strain of the woman as she shifted back to human form. You know what, I think I could use some sleep... That deer meat, I could fall straight asleep. I just need some coffee, and I'd be good. Straight black, no cream. Pardon a pun.
Mr. Black laid down and curled up, closing his eyes but, but he remained awake. He thought about what Sentra had said about the real world, and how strange that old yet always changing place was. He had seen a few live feed videos, from traffic cameras, police cameras, military UAVs, but it all seemed so strange to him. It was so different from anything he had ever seen. Desperately, he wanted out. But he knew that that was an impossibility, and could never happen. No matter how hard he prayed.
Black continued to think, but now about religion, that wonderful idea that had been missing his entire life. Some seemed hateful and oppressive, but others seemed to be legitimate. He thought about the angels, talked about in the Christian Bible, and about the pictures he had found of them. Winged men with halos and white robes, helpful and loving, always there. He laughed, at how he had found his 'guardian angel,' the woman near by. Someone who just happened to fly by, by pure chance, and help out. Almost a miracle, he thought to himself. He continued thinking throughout the night, pondering his own existence, and all that had been given to him, and taken from him.
Eventually, he drifted off, dreaming that he was a real panther, in the real world, living deep in a jungle, without a care in the world, knowing nothing about humanity, Ymaggion, danger, angels, demons, and religion. He just existed, and loved every minute of it.
Suddenly, his mind came back to reality. Silently, he thought to himself, I wonder if God loves me... If he knows about me... If I am real?

Listening to the cat was like listening to a lullaby. The steadiness of his voice made her realize just how tired she really was, and she slumped down with her back to a large boulder nearby. Carefully shifting her wings, she made herself comfortable, and within seconds was out. Dreams of falcons, hawks, and eagles flying with her through the clouds filled her head. All at once she was diving downward, face to the ground, aiming straight for a large body of water. She knew she wouldn't survive, but she couldn't make herself pull up. Just inches from the water her eyes snapped open and she woke up with a start. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead and she shifted, crossing her ankles and folding her hands over her stomach. She closed her eyes again, this time refusing sleep, and merely resting.
Black seemed fairly content to simply rest, though eventually she watched his breathing grow even. His eyes flickered back and forth beneath their lids and she knew he was dreaming. His paws twitched ever so slightly and Sentra grinned to herself, closing her eyes again. She began to ponder what he was dreaming about, thinking her own thoughts about what a large cat might dream. But then, he wasn't exactly a cat. So what would he be dreaming as a half cat?
But Sentra couldn't help herself in falling asleep again. This time, no dreams overcame her but the sight of a large black dragon with royal purple eyes, walls of fire built around the back of its body. Somehow her body was enveloped in black flames that did not burn. Her wings with a thick black color with silver edges. The dragon spoke in a voice so loud it hurt her head, but with the sound of a whisper, "See him safe. Protect him. Let your heart guide you both to your destiny. You may yet find that you have use of each other."
Waking with a start, Sentra gasped, sitting bolt upright. Breathing hard, she stood and looked around. It had become significantly darker and she walked closer over to Black, giving him a hesitant look. But the fear in her heart was closing in, strangling her, creating a pressure at the back of her throat. She lay down at his side and pushed herself close to him. A grimace pulled itself over her face as she felt his fur on her wings, but she closed her eyes and let sleep come once more, this time without dreams, and without disturbance. At least for now.

Black shifted uncomfortably as the woman laid down next to him. He felt unsure of how to react as the woman pushed herself closer. He had never been good in relationships, and he was afraid of what may happen. He knew that he was a freak, and that he was just a weapon. But so was she. His black eyes closed as he felt her warmth, her breath on his fur. It felt right. But he still felt doubt. Slowly, he allowed sleep to overcome him.
What's happening to me?
Black woke up six hours later, with the woman still beside him. He remained still, trying to remember what had led up to last night. Finally, he stopped trying, and slid out from underneath the woman, making sure not to disturb her. He prowled through a small forest, looking for breakfast. He knew that the woman would need more food, and that it would be a nice gesture to try bringing back food.
He found a large boar, and stalked it for a few minutes before taking it out with ease. His razor sharp claws ripped through the armored hide of the boar, exposing the soft flesh underneath. He hauled the boar back to the camp, where he began to filet the boar, cutting it up into slightly smaller, more civilized bites. The woman was still sleeping and occasionally twitching. He cleaned his bloodied claws in the creek nearby, and then returned to the camp, still thinking about Sentra, curious about her history, her past, and more importantly, her future. He prayed that no harm would come to her in the oncoming battle. And he vowed that he would protect her with his last breath.

Sentra twitched slightly as Black slid out from under her, her wings meeting cold ground rather than warm fur, but still she slept. The girl's body was tired from her travels and needed rest badly. Darkness was her only sight as she slept, no dreams interrupting her solemness, no nightmares frightening her from her solace. There was a certain calm about her now. Her features relaxed from their generally stern position, eyes shut lightly to the outside world, mouth a more full shape than the thin line it usually was. Her chest rose and fell with each breath, and her stomach followed in its turn.
She awoke to the smell of a fresh kill, her eyes slowly fluttering open. Black was looking at her, and she sat up, rubbing her shoulder bashfully, "Sorry, about last night. I was..." She paused, not wanting to say what she had felt, "Unnerved." That seemed about the right word for it. Standing, she walked over to him and knelt by the kill he had made. She smiled at him and patted his head.
With more energy, she felt it would be proper to eat cooked meat in her more human form. Slipping the weapon Black had given her out of her belt, she cut apart a few tree branches and stacked them together in the appropriate fashion for a fire to start quickly, placing some dried grass beneath it all. She reached down to her black leather boot and unsheathed a long dagger, with a sound to her like the choirs of heaven singing. She struck her blade with the new one a few times before sparks grew in the dry grass. Leaning over, she blew gently on them, starting a small blaze that soon grew to the proper size for cooking. Looking around, she spotted a large stick, and began to whittle away the end, making a sharp point.
As she began to cook her own meal, she looked over at Black again, "Would you like me to cook some for you, or do you prefer it raw?"

Black twitched as Sentra patted his head. Well, there is never any reason to feel unnerved. Most things tend to stay away from large black cats made of dark matter. But they just fail to see my charming personality. Black grinned as best he could with his cat features. He enjoyed having company, and Sentra proved to be a most interesting companion. She was different from every other person he had ever met. She accepted his differences, and had know his pain first hand. Very few tolerated Black, viewing him as an abomination, something to be used and the shortly discarded, but she seemed to enjoy his company.
Cooked would be nice, if it wouldn't be too difficult. Some civility would be nice. He licked his fur, cleaning off some of the dirt from the hunt earlier.
Did you sleep all right?

Listening to the cat she smiled and nodded. He was right. Why had she been so afraid of the darkness when there was a huge cat made to be a weapon laying so closely nearby? She laughed slightly at his final comment about his charming personality, "Charming indeed," she replied, "But maybe a little boastful?" She flashed him a smile and turned back to her cooking. His sense of humor was enjoyable in her opinion. She wondered briefly why he had been alone when they met. Surely someone liked him enough to follow him around? She shook her head, her hair falling over her eyes slightly.
She nodded at his request for cooked food, the smile still on her face. She watched him wash out of the corner of her eye, still very focused on cooking the meat for him and herself. When he asked how she had slept, she sighed, the smile slowly falling from her face, "I had a few bad dreams and some interesting ones. Nothing new really. How about you? You seemed very...content last night."

Mr. Black looked away indignantly. Boastful? I am simply proud of my many achievements. Black laughed after he spoke. He stood up and arched his back, stretching for a couple minutes. He then flopped over on the ground, lying stomach up. He gave a concerned look as Sentra talked of nightmares, and a curious one as she spoke of interesting dreams.
I had an... interesting night. I dreamt that I was a panther. A real one. What about you? Anything worth telling about? Mr. Black sniffed a patch of grass, and then wiggled his shoulder a bit.
My God, that bastard was heavy. But a rather easy kill. Isn't that life? So much to it, and so easy if we just try a little bit harder. Well, I'm just rambling...

Sentra smiled at Black's joking manner, enjoying the fact that he seemed so comfortable around her. She wasn't sure things would have been so easy if he didn't like her enough to joke around a campfire. She pulled the meat back in to check on it and, satisfied, scraped it off onto a large flat rock between the two of them. Hers being done as well, she put it on the same rock and turned toward him to eat. Saying a short prayer to herself over her food at a soft whisper, she took the first piece into her mouth and began to chew thoughtfully.
Grinning she replied, "I had a dream that I was flying with the hawks and eagles over the ocean. And then I had a dream that a dragon was talking to me. She was made of some form of black flame..." Sentra trailed off then, realizing she may have spoken too much. A small breath of a laugh escaped her while he spoke and she nodded grimly, "Life requires more effort than most are willing to give it. And sometimes it can be hard to tell when you're trying too hard."

The large black cat looked up, and stared straight at Sentra. How much effort are you willing to give to life? Will you glaze past, or will you examine every detail, trying so hard to see that you never move. That is the real gift, to be able to see and move at same time. The cat stood up and shook of his fur, and rolled his shoulders.
Have you ever seen a Nightmare? I just want to make sure that you know what you're up against.

Sentra listened intently to Black, sighing and nodding as he finished, "Life deserves more effort than I can give. It seems that no one can ever truly live as long as they have the desire to do so. By having the desire to live you take away the spontaneity that makes life what it is." The girl paused for a moment, wondering if her thought had made sense at all. She ruffled her wings and laid each feather down in turn slowly, pulling a comb from her pocket and scraping it through her hair gently.
"I haven't ever seen one, no. Are they as frightening as they sound?"

You have no idea about Nightmares. They can be anything. Soldiers, snakes, dogs, cats, fish, catfish, whatever. They take control of near dead animals or men, and then rain destruction on anything and everything. They are created by dark energy, which I need to survive. If we kill one, it should fix me up.
The panther continued walking, head low, sniffing the ground. He started jogging slowly, looking around. I think that we are close. You'll recognize it when you see it.

Sentra looked down at the cat as she stood up, her eyes fixed on his, her face grim as she nodded. She took into account every word he spoke, listening to his voice carefully and taking in the sound of dislike. She could understand that. Needing something so terrible in your life simply to have a right existance...it would be as if she'd never left the lab. That must be what it was for him, trapped in a place he could never escape because of what he was. What he was meant to be. A weapon could not get away from the fact that it was a weapon and meant to destroy, even if it wanted to love with all its heart.
Ruffling her wings she started off after him sending a signal to her eagle that it was time to move on. As the large bird landed on her shoulder, she did not flinch, merely reached up with a natural movement to let him nimble her finger momentarily. When he took the time to say they were close, she silently shrugged her shoulder, sending the bird into the air, and then took off from the ground herself. Soaring high above the ground, she could see everything, including the huge black wolf headed straight toward her panther friend.
Rocketing toward the ground, she landed between the two, stanced to fight the great wolf loping toward them and protect her friend.

This is it... ready to rock? There was a slight hint of excitement in Black's voice. He had been waiting for this moment for quite some time. He was finally going to become whole again. The cat suddenly flattened, just becoming a large black dot on the ground. The wolf ran over him, heading straight for Sentra. Black re-materialized, and attacked from behind. His claws extended as leaped, his jaws opened. The heart- we must get its heart. Black landed on the back of the wolf. His claws ripped through the creature's rotting flesh as if it were not even there. Black roared, proud of his slight victory. The wolf spun around, and bits of blood flew in every direction. A chunk of meat fell to the ground. Black lunged again, teeth headed for the visible heart of darkness. He crushed down, and the dark matter filled him. But the fight was far from over. The great cat backed up, and shifted into a man, dressed in a black suit, and wearing a black top hat. His skin was the same color as the cat's fur, and his eyes were a solid black. He spoke.
"I need my weapon." Mr. Black twisted his hands, and a small bit of Dark matter appeared in his hand. He threw his hand forward, and the matter shot out like a bullet, knocking off more flesh.
The Nightmare grew in size, eventually becoming the size of a mobile home. It picked up a tree truck with its teeth, and threw it. The tree landed, sending splinters everywhere.
"My weapon, please?"

Launching herself upward with a powerful thrust of her wings, Sentra soared upward, calling to her bird to aid them. She watched the giant eagle fly closer to her and then the two were steaming downward toward the wolf at the same speed, and level. Wind whipped past her face, stinging her eyes and throwing her hair behind her.
At last they came to the giant black body and split apart. Her eagle headed straight for the beast's eyes, clawing and thrusting its beak savagely forward into the black pits. As the wolf howled in pain, she released a yell of her own, throwing every ounce of strength and weight she had into the creature's neck, just below its skull, desperately attempting to remove one from the other.
The impact sent the beast tumbling forward over itself as she recovered and soared upward again, posing herself for the next attack. She looked briefly for her eagle friend, finding him quickly, before her eyes scanned downward for Black.
